VIDEO TUTORIAL: MICA Platform for TN Ready Test

What is MICA?

The TN Ready Test is making its debut in Tennessee this upcoming 2015-2016 school year. Despite its rapidly approaching launch date, there are still few resources available for teachers.

If you are an educator in the state of Tennessee, you should have received an email from the Office of Assessment Logistics at the end of the school year (mine came on May 28th) with the subject line: TN Educator MICA Log-On Information. This email provides instructions for logging onto the MICA platform, which is the website that houses Item Samplers and allows teachers to build, administer, and track assessments using the TN Ready questions. Logging on for the first time requires you to look up lots of information about your school and district. It took me a few minutes to sort out, but if you follow all the directions, it works.

Item Samplers Released

The first round of Item Samplers were released near the end of June. The “Practice” tab in MICA only includes the question types, not example questions. The item samplers are available after you begin building your own assessments.

I didn’t find the MICA platform particularly easy to navigate, and the state hasn’t provided any tutorials or guidance yet. Specifically, I had difficulty locating the Item Samplers and determining which standard they aligned to. Therefore, I’ve put together two introductory videos on the MICA platform and how to build assessments so you can easily access Item Samplers.

The video below shows you how to access Item Samplers on the MICA Platform, build your own assessments, assign assessments to class, and offers tips to mitigate the very small number of items currently available on the MICA platform.
